3 Podcasts that spurred my growth in Corporate
It’s been a while I have been listening to podcasts. I started listening to podcasts in 2018. I would spend approx. 1.5 hrs on commute to office one way. Being a book enthusiast, I would often carry my Kindle or a book with me to utilize the time. But soon it started affecting my eyes. It was then I started listening to podcasts. And pretty much after that, I got hooked to listening to podcasts- not just during office commute but also during workout, long walks and cooking.
There is no dearth of good content on any given topic in the podcast world. The space is actually exploding. Whether you want to listen to news, comedy shows or serious life lessons, there is content to fill up your time. It is like a new radio. One can get easily lose track of time just switching from one good podcasts to another.
Over these last few years, I have listened to various artists on podcasts depending on my interest areas around business & economics, entrepreneurship, investing, health & wellness, spirituality and life lessons in general. Some of them had profound effect on my learning and growth.
Here’s the list of 3 such podcasts that I listen always. They changed how I tackle different situations in life, provided me with various mental models for better decision making, helped me understand dynamics of economies and introduced a world of possibilities and perceptions in the corporate and real world.
#1. The Knowledge Project:
Shane Parrish, owner of the blog Farnam Street, host the Knowledge project. The goal of the podcast is to help individuals think, reflect, and better understand the complexities and interconnections in the world in which we live. The podcast happens in an interview style. And one can get easily blown away by the ton of information, life lessons and insights that get shared in those 60–90 minutes. Every guest on the episode is a world-class doer or thinker who discuss and analyze problems and share the secrets of master decision-making. Some of my favorite interviews has been with Naval ravikant, Walter Isaacson, Robert Cialdini, Jim Collins and Shiela Heen. If I have only one podcast to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be the one!
#2. Freakonomics Radio:
Hosted by the co-author of Freakonomics, Stephen J. Dubner brings to you the world of economics and much more in a simple, story-telling and entertaining format that changes your perspective about everything. I find it very informative and fascinating. Every episode is different from the previous one and is packed with evidence based facts. In the past, it has featured some enlightening interviews with accomplished guests like Malcolm Gladwell and presented some interesting research on Uber. Some of my favorite ones have been — ‘Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Money (But Were Afraid to Ask)’, ‘Why Don’t We All Speak the Same Language? (Earth 2.0 Series)’, ‘What can Uber teach us about Gender Pay Gap’.
#3. HBR Idea Cast:
HBR Idea Cast is hosted by Harvard Business Review which features leading thinkers and business and management. The topics range from business, leadership, entrepreneurship, technology, innovation, current affairs etc. Listening to the great minds discussing different ideas, frameworks, business models and sharing advice is an enriching experience. Most of the episodes are under 30 minutes which is another reason why I love listening to it. I find it to be one of the most under-rated podcasts. Some of the episodes which I liked are ‘The Right Way to Get First 1000 Customers’, ‘Why people — and companies need purpose’, ‘The Right Way to Solve Complex Business Problems’.
What are you listening to?
I find listening to podcasts is a far more convenient way to gather knowledge and learn on various topics if you are not so much into reading or find the subject too boring to give it a read.
As always, would love to know what are your favorite podcasts and why? Please share your comments.
